Roof Structure

 Floor Plan - Total Floor Area  480 Sq.ft.

This house consists with;

  • Soil, cement stabilized walls. (10:1 Soil, Cement proportion)
  • Soil cement interlock brick columns
  • Timber roof frame with

3 Nos. 2”*1” reefers for rafters

4”*3” wall plates

  • Precast concrete door & window frames
  • Soil, cement stabilized floor paving.

Foundation of the house shall be built according to soil condition of the ground and site condition. Random rubble masonry has been used for this model house foundation.

Estimated rates for wall construction

Soil, cement    stabilized wall    =Rs.60.00 per sqft

Soil, cement  interlock brick columns   = Rs.95.00per sqft

(As at  January 2005)

Test performed in University of Moratuwa shows that the strength of this soil cement stabilized wall is similar to the strength of 225 mm thick ordinary brick wall.

Good Soil type for construction of walls

  • Clay, slit-25-35%
  • Sand      - 45-65%
  • Gravel    - 5-20%

 Factors affecting Quality

  • Soil Type (to be selected as above)
  • Cement content  (10:1 Soil, Cement)
  • Moisture content (to be maintained at site)
  • Compaction ( 6” loose layer to be compacted to 4”)
  • Curing (Green walls to be wetted at least 7 days)
