Target Group :
Managerial
Personnel in the construction Industry such as, Project Managers and Site
Engineers of Public sector organizations, Contractors' Project Managers, Site
Agents, Site Engineers, Technical Assistants, Foremen with adequate site
management experience etc. Other
personnel associated with Construction Projects such as Design Engineers,
Architects, Quantity Surveyors etc. may also apply.
Aim
:
To
improve the performance of Managerial Personnel in the Construction Industry in
Sri Lanka.
Goal :
To
train the participants to perform better in managing the on -site phase of a
construction project by adopting proper contract administration, planning and
control methods.
General Objectives :
At
the end of the course the participants will be able to administer, plan out and
control construction contracts more effectively.

Project Preparation by
participants
Project Case Study
Participants
are required to make an extensive examination and analysis of a
selected on-going construction project applying the techniques and
systems learnt during the theoretical part of the course. For this work trainees will work in groups.
The group will normally consist of two persons, each one undertaking
various tasks in the analysis.
Group Presentation
Each
group will present the details of their case study before an invited panel,
which will include the participants' employees, the Project Managers from the
projects selected as well as the staff.
The presentation will be open for constructive criticism by the panel as
well as other participants at the end.
Project Report
Each
group is expected to submit a report on the findings of the case study.
Every aspect of the 'on-site' situation is to be thoroughly examined and
any weakness or strength in the system highlighted in the
report. Alternative methods
and procedures are also to be suggested.
Group
project work, the presentation and the report are the most important tasks in
the course and shows the amount of effort and input by the participants and
their grasp of the basic management concepts necessary to control a project.
It is the climax of the course. It
is also expected that any major faults or problems highlighted by a project
report would lead to a direct improvement on the project in question.
Course Structure :
The
course will be conducted for 13 weeks (26 days) every Friday and Saturday from
0900 hours to 1700 hours as
follows:
(i) Theoretical part (15 days)
(ii) Practical part (11 days)
